NFPT's Certification Council reviews, establishes, and maintains standards for all NFPT certification policies and procedures. Council members are made up of highly qualified professionals who consider matters of NFPT protocol while representing both health and fitness specialists as well as the fitness consumer and public member. Angie Pattengale - Certification Council Coordinator

Angie Pattengale Angie has a BS in Business Management with a minor in Human Resources from Purdue University's Krannert School of Management. She has worked with the NFPT since 1992 with major organizational accomplishments that include the coordination of NCCA accreditation activities and American Council on Education college credit award program. Mrs. Pattengale is the NFPT Director of Certification and acting supervisor of certification business functions.
   

Lauren Lewis - Certification Council Member

Lauren Lewis Lauren has a BS in Education from Syracuse University and has worked as a one on one Personal Fitness Trainer since 1996. Lauren has instructed a variety of classes in a number of fitness facilities that include: : High and Low Impact Aerobics, Sports Aerobics, Step, Body Conditioning, Weight Training, Body Ball, Core Board, Body Bars, Flex-a-Tube, Seniors, Prenatal, Slide, Stretch, Power Yoga, Strut, Jump Rope, Boot Camp, Interval Training, Circuit Training, and Kick Boxing. Currently Lauren offers a Senior Fitness Course which includes a 6-week 12 hour program for seniors 65+ that has been approved and subsidized by a grant from St. David's Hospital in Austin, TX.
   

Susan Mella - Certification Council Member

Sue Mella Registered Dietitian and Certified Fitness Trainer living in Ormond Beach, Florida, she has fifteen years of experience in the wellness field and has been a successful Certified Fitness Trainer through NFPT since 1994. Susan earned her B.B.A. degree in Management (1987) and M.S. in Dietetics and Nutrition (2000) from Florida International University, Miami, Florida. She co-authored the "Nutrition Education and Counseling" section of the Florida Dietetic Association's Diet Manual and continues to be involved in academia as an adjunct faculty.
   

Karyn Gallivan - Certification Council Member

Karyn Gallivan

Karyn Gallivan, MS, ATC, CSCS, NSCA-CPT, is a certified Athletic Trainer with over 20 years of experience in all applications of Sports Medicine including traditional athletic training at the university, high school and clinical settings, personal fitness training, strength and conditioning and teaching. Karyn is currently an instructor in the Human Performance & Sports Sciences Department at Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN.

Karyn believes in training and educating the whole person and works with each client to design safe and effective programs that will strengthen "weak links" and lead to an enhanced level of health and fitness. In addition to her classroom duties, Karyn oversees training of student interns in the "art" of personal training, strength & conditioning, and athletic training, as well as the strength & conditioning and nutrition education for TSU Softball. With international speaking experience, Karyn focuses her seminar efforts on continuing education for coaches, rehabilitation, and fitness professionals.

   

Kelly Metzger-Kolterman - Certification Council Member

Kelly Metzger

Kelly has  practiced  yoga for 12-years and is a 500 hour level registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance.  She has studied a wide variety of yoga disciplines from the very traditional Hatha, to Vinyasa,  Kundalini and Breast Cancer Recovery Yoga. In addition to teaching yoga Kelly achieved her Personal Fitness Trainer certification with NFPT in 1997. She is also certified in Group Fitness,  Kickboxing, Pilates, Senior Fitness, Aquatics and Nutrition.

Kelly has 15 years experience owning and running yoga studios, personal training studios and  wellness centers. Kelly shares her fitness knowledge through freelance writing for health and lifestyle magazines as well as lectures and appearances on  television programs and DVD’s. Her talents as an actress and model have earned her a variety of broadcast and print advertising assignments; a personal highlight was being featured as a fitness model in Energy Magazine.  

   

Karrie Canary - Certification Council Public Member

 

Karrie Canary OTR, senior staff pediatric specialist, received her bachelors in science in occupational therapy from Indiana University Medical Center in 1995.  She has specialized in pediatrics at Greater Lafayette Health Service for 10 years.  During her 10 years of practice, she has received several certifications in the treatment of sensory modulation dysfunction including the following: Certified Infant Massage Instructor, Certified Interactive Metronome Provider, Therapeutic Listening, SOMONAS, and NCAST (Feeding Assessment). 

She has served as a guest lecturer for pediatrics OT at IU, U of I, and Purdue University.  She actively participated in the development and execution of the early intervention program and follow up clinic for the NICU.  Through her extensive specialization, she continues to facilitate a thriving pediatric program.  The NFPT is proud to have Ms. Canary serves as NFPT Certification Council Public Member.
