NFPT's Board of Education provides educational opportunities and materials, using various media and at no cost, to prospective and current physical fitness trainers as well as interested members of the general public. Board members represent a cross section of highly educated and qualified professionals with specialized interests and experience in many health and wellness subjects. The NFPT Board is responsible for the review, revision, and maintenance of all NFPT education material and related curricula.

Charles DeFrancesco - Board Chairmen

Charles has been working with NFPT for over 15 years. He was Co-founder of Greenwich Sports Medicine, current owner of Fit and Functional and Pure Fitness Group, Charles DeFrancescoLLC.In addition Mr DeFrancesco consults for many fitness facilitues and local medical practices including Westchester Sports and Wellness. 

Charles specializes in functional assessments, flexibility, and treatment of sports injuries. He is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), the National Federation of Professional Trainers (NFPT) with his CPT and Master Fitness Trainer credentials, EFTI, AFPA and EFG. Charles has attended and hosted numerous strength and conditioning seminars as well as written a book on functional training, numerous articles and presented various lectures on the essentials of core rehabilitation and flexibility. Amongst his certifications, Mr. DeFrancesco is a contributing author of the accredited NFPT standard CPT study manual, and various continuing education courses for NFPT, ACE, and NASM. Mr. DeFrancesco's understanding of active rehabilitation and conditioning are essential to injury prevention and performance enhancement concepts.

Gene Kelly - Board Member

Master Fitness Trainer, Instructor, and Life Coach, Gene Kelly is a former fire fighter with 25 years experience in fitness and nutrition consulting, recreational fitness, and group training. He is the Fitness Director of Bellingham Technical College and owner of One Life Coaching in Bellingham, Washington. Gene participated in specialized training as a paramedic emergency medical technician and has taught classes in advanced rope rescue, swift water technology, advanced weight lifting, and advanced sports nutrition. In addition, Gene is an experienced trail guide for Grand Canyon National Park.

Thom Theis - Board Member

Thom is the PTT Program Director for Apollo College in Phoenix, Az. He has a BS in Health and Physical Education from SCSU (Southern Connecticut State University). Thom served active military duty, working in a Physical Therapy Clinic in Nurenberg Germany Hospital, later working as a military ski patrol officer. In the alpine town of Garmisch-Partenkirken, Thom trained with a number of athletes, patrolling the slopes and traveling throughout Europe. Thom has taught and trained Physical Therapy Technicians at A&P in Therapeutic Exercises and Modalities for the past 12 years in post secondary education. He is currently working on projects with NFPT in the areas of education as well as therapeutics.

Dr. Robert Inesta - Board Member

Dr. Inesta earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at New York Chiropractic College, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into

 the Phi Chi Omega Honor Society. He was the recipient of the Frank DiGiacomo Technique Award for distinguished excellence in manual adjusting procedures, and the Levittown Health Center Award for distinguishedexcellence in diagnosis and case management.

Dr. Inesta is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. His extensive post graduate training consists of functional rehabilitation, functional soft tissue therapy and biomechanics, clinical neurophysiology and electrodiagnosis and nutrition. He is a certified provider of Active Release Techniques, Graston Technique and Kinesiotaping.

Dr. Inesta's main goal is to help his patients to reach their goals in the most efficient and effective way. He is consistently pursuing new information and treatment methods in order to provide the most cutting-edge care package.  He has worked with a wide variety of patients, including athletes at the high school, college, and professional levels, post operative patients, pregnant women and children. He has lectured on topics including sports medicine, functional training, biomechanics, injury prevention and nutrition and has co-authored articles on functional training. He is also a co-author of the training manuals of the National Federation of Personal Trainers.
