National Physical Fitness & Sports Month

It is an important time for fitness professionals. This is your month. Take advantage of this great opportunity to encourage physical activity and empower Americans to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Get out and make the most of it. Help others get involved with some of the activities taking place in your community. Use this month to share the gift of fitness with others.

Certain days and weeks throughout May have been designated to observe different initiatives to get Americans active.

May 13-19
National Women’s Health Week
National Women’s Health Week is a weeklong health observance coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office On Women’s Health.

 

May 16 National Employee Health and Fitness DayGlobal Employee Health & Fitness Month (GEHFM) is an international and national observance of health and fitness in the workplace, created by two non-profit organizations, the National Association for Health & Fitness and ACTIVE Life.

 

May 18 Bike-to-Work Week National Bike to Work Week/Day was started by the League of American Bicyclists, who also promotes Bike Week and Bike Month during the month of May. Since its origin, this day has grown and developed into a nationwide event. Local, regional, and national bicycle advocacy groups participate to encourage people to commute to work using a bicycle.

 

May 19 National Kids to Parks Day NPT created National Kids to Parks Day to empower kids to discover and enjoy parks in their community. Our goal is to inspire healthy outdoor recreation and to cultivate our future park stewards.

 

May 30 National Senior Health and Fitness DayThe common goal for this day: to help keep older Americans healthy and fit.

Each observance offers a unique opportunity for you, as a fitness professional, to share your passion and knowledge of fitness with your community. In the month of May, we will share with you unique ways to utilize these observances to grow your business. In addition to spreading fitness throughout America, NPFSM is a prime occasion to add clients from key demographics mentioned in IHRSA’s 2012 Health Club Trends report.
