Certification Council

The Certification Council is completely independent and separate from the administrative staff and education board. The Council's responsibility is to insure assessment policies and protocols are strictly enforced maintaining the integrity of the examinations. These Council Members answer directly to the Certification Coordinator.

April Pattee - Certification Council Coordinator

April Pattee April graduated with a BS in Organizational Leadership and Supervision from Purdue University's School of Technology in December 2001. April has been a part of the NFPT staff since 1992 with a current organizational title of Human Resource Director. Her responsibilities include NFPT customer service supervision, organizational staff supervision, internal processing, and business systems management.

Robert Bovee - Certification Council Member

Robert Bovee Mr. Bovee has represented the NFPT since its inception in 1988 and continues to act as NFPT State Representative in the state of New York. Robert Bovee designed, developed, and currently overseas The National Academy of The Personal Health Approach (NATPHA) which offers 46 different types and levels of professional certification programs. He is a published author of "Strengthening and Conditioning Your Body" and has been a Personal Fitness Trainer for 26 years, more recently working as a Rehabilitation Specialist for such organizations as the Rochester Americans Professional Hockey Team and the Rochester Raging Rhinos Professional Soccer Team.

Kelly Metzger - Certification Council Member

Kelly Metzger is co-founder and President of the Kachmann Mind Body Institute, one of the Midwest's leading resources for fitness and wellness. Located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the Institute embodies Kelly's passion to help individuals improve their lives through a holistic approach to fitness training and nutrition. Kelly is an NFPT certified Personal Fitness Trainer who has also received certifications in Group Fitness, Kickboxing, Pilates, Senior Fitness, Aquatics and Nutrition. She earned her 500hr-level RYT with Yoga Alliance® following more than 10-years of study of a wide variety of yoga disciplines from the very traditional Hatha to Vinyasa, Kundalini and Breast Cancer Recovery Yoga. Kelly also shares her fitness knowledge through her freelance writing for health and lifestyle magazines as well as through her lectures and appearances on television programs and DVD's. Her talents as an actress and model have earned her a variety of broadcast and print advertising assignments; a personal highlight was being featured as a fitness model in Energy Magazine.

Karyn Gallivan - Certification Council Member

Karyn received a B.S. in Sports Medicine and an M.S. in Athletic Training from Old Dominion University, and has completed required coursework for a PhD in Exercise Science from the University of Mississippi. She is the TN State Director for the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and an Executive Council Member for its Personal Training Special Interest Group. Karyn is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS), Certified Athletic Trainer (NATA), Tennessee State Representative, Master Trainer, Advanced Sports Nutrition Specialist (NFPT), American Red Cross Instructor, and a member of the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She has worked in all aspects of sports medicine as a teacher, program designer, and practitioner in university, private, and hospital settings. An international lecturer and consultant for Cross Country Education, Inc., Karyn teaches professionals at all levels of the sports medicine industry. At STEPS, Karyn's responsibilities include training clients and student interns, and developing outreach programs which provide post-rehab and personal training services to private, institutional and hospital-based facilities. As a personal trainer, her specialty is correcting weak links and bridging the gap between one's knowledge and practice.

Lauren Lewis - Certification Council Member

Lauren has a BS in Education from Syracuse University and has worked as a one on one Personal Fitness Trainer since 1996. Lauren has instructed a variety of classes in a number of fitness facilities that include: : High and Low Impact Aerobics, Sports Aerobics, Step, Body Conditioning, Weight Training, Body Ball, Core Board, Body Bars, Flex-a-Tube, Seniors, Prenatal, Slide, Stretch, Power Yoga, Strut, Jump Rope, Boot Camp, Interval Training, Circuit Training, and Kick Boxing. Currently Lauren offers a Senior Fitness Course which includes a 6-week 12 hour program for seniors 65+ that has been approved and subsidized by a grant from St. David's Hospital in Austin, TX.

Brett Kehler - Certification Council Member

Mr. Kehler is the Owner/President of FitPro Athletics and his experiences include developing program strategies and facility policies for San Diego Sports Medicine Fitness Center, Merritt Athletic Club, and Washington Sports Club. Brett Kehler works as an events operator for IDEA Health and Fitness and is certified by the NASM and the NFPT with the current NFPT State Representative title in the state of California.

Carrie Kaminsky - Certification Council Public Member *

Carrie has a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from Indiana-Purdue University, Indianapolis, IN 1998. Currently a Dental Hygienist, Carrie has acted as a public health member working as a Professional Development Chair, Public Health Liason, and more recently a Wabash Shore Trustee. Carrie Kaminsky is NFPT's acting Certification Public Member
