IDEA Health and Fitness Association Celebrates 30th Anniversary

While we always look forward to July 4th and celebrating our American Independence, we are packing up and preparing to travel to San Diego for the July 5th kickoff of IDEA’s World FItness Convention. And, IDEA is also celebrating a big milestone – 30 years in the health and fitness industry. Since 1982, IDEA has been contributing to the professional development and continuing education of fitness professionals around the world. As IDEA says on it’s website the organization and the fitness industry have “grown up” together as its history closely parallels the fitness boom.

Want to know the totally rad and mad cool twist? The 80’s were bangin’ for NFPT too! We were right there almost the entire time working with and learning from IDEA, growing with the fitness industry and contributing to the professional development and continuing education of personal trainers. In February 2013, we will be celebrating our 25th anniversary!

In the meantime, let’s congratulate IDEA on its 30th Anniversary and take a minute to reminisce about some fitness related memories from the decade when our mission and IDEA’s vision got started.

Do you remember?

This toy that made fitness fun for kids.

The dance-based group fitness program that features a fusion of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing, and Latin-style movements set to popular music.

The 1988 Summer Olympics.

The “toys” and commercials that “motivated” (or pushed) girls to stay fit.

Wow! All of these bring back so many memories. What’s your favoritie memory of the 80s?
