What You Get

A two-day, 16 hour, instructor led workshop that will cover the key components to kick-start your career as a successful personal trainer.  You’ll get gym floor instruction, learn proper form, and know how to properly assess your clients.  We’ll dive into the fundamentals of exercise science and real-world methodologies essential to your trainer career.  There will be a classroom component with a Power-Point presentation to cover some of the more complex subject matters.  You’ll also receive a Skinfold Caliper-Circumference Measurement Tape to assist with assessments.  If you’re interested in Becoming a Certified Personal Trainer, it would be beneficial to add a Certification Package prior to your workshop to access the Exam Prep Resources and Personal Fitness Trainer Manual, which is the education resource being utilized in the workshop.

Performance and Participation Instruction

Client Assessments

Learning and understanding how to perform client assessments is the key to providing real results in a safe and effective way. You will learn how to perform the following key assessments.

  • Perform strength test based on percentage with a
    • 10 rep max
    • 10 rep sub-maximal Chest Press
    • 10 rep sub-maximal Leg Press
    • 10 rep sub-maximal Pull Down
  • Perform muscle endurance assessments with result interpretation
    • One minute sit-up test
    • Pull ups (men) or modified
    • Pull up (women)
    • Push ups (men) or modified push ups (women)
  • Performance of 3-minute step test with result interpretation
  • Blood pressure testing
  • Sit and reach test
  • Body composition assessment (Bio-Impedance / Caliper)
  • Interpret and prescribe cardiovascular prescriptions based on Karvonen Formula
  • Active demonstrations of the 17 NFPT recommended base exercises with proper spotting techniques
  • Active demonstrations of the 16 NFPT recommended base stretches

On the Sunday before your workshop starts, join NFPT for a CPR-AED certification class to fulfill a best practice for all certified trainers. You’ll receive a video to prepare ahead of time. Then come on Sunday for two hours of hands-on instruction and certification from the American Health and Safety Institute.
