You’ll receive a detailed exam content outline that covers the subjects on the exam. The full checklist, which has each main category broken down into specific content areas, will be available as a download in your NFPT Account to use as a tool to prep for your exam.

There are five main content areas:

1. Principles of Human Anatomy
2. Principles of Physiology
3. Fitness Components
4. Training Program Development, Implementation and Modification
5. Professionalism and Communication Skills

NFPT’s education board develops, reviews and approves our fitness education. We teach fundamental exercise science and fitness training methods that you’ll put to work as a personal trainer but you are not required to purchase NFPT education materials to take the certification exam.

With NFPT, there are no hidden exam fees; the cost of your first exam is included in each certification package. Purchase the certification package that’s right for you to receive your login and instructions and choose your exam day and time when you’re ready. You can choose to take the test in person at one of 400+ sites worldwide or with a virtual proctor from home. If you don’t pass on the first try, you can retake the test for $119.
