Group fitness classes are not a new thing. They have been around for quite some time now. The main reason is because of the many benefits they provide for people wanting to get in shape with a group. Teaching these classes also presents benefits of group fitness for personal trainers.
You get to have a group of clients all at the same time. This is maximizing how many people you get to interact with in your day. If these people have good experiences with you, that is that many more people who can market for you by word of mouth. Your potential referrals go up exponentially!
Reaching the “Untouchables”
Some people are intimidated to be with a trainer by themselves. Group fitness gives those shy people a chance to experience you as a personal trainer in a non-threatening atmosphere. In the group fitness setting, people who otherwise would not come to you are able to be there. It is within their comfort zone. You are able to reach these otherwise “untouchables”.
Being Motivated and Challenged by Peers
People want a social experience in most things that they do. Having this “support group” of likeminded individuals is encouraging. Clients have a group of cheerleaders who are also trying to get fit and accomplish goals. Motivation is such a strong theme in group fitness classes. And everyone craves it. Clients are also challenged to work harder in their workouts. It’s not just you as the trainer motivating and pushing them to do better. It’s the entire class working together and challenging one another. Motivation and challenges are very powerful for people! Your clients will hopefully see better results and be more satisfied with you as a trainer even though you didn’t do all the motivating and challenging.
No one wants his or her workouts to be a drag. Everyone is looking for a way to spruce up their fitness to make it fun. Having others around will encourage more people to join your classes for that “fun factor”. Make it fun for them and they will keep coming back (and hopefully with more friends)!
