In these days of fast food and over-booked schedules, obesity thrives. Our technology and pursuit of monetary gain has taken the front seat. And our nation’s health and fitness have been tucked away nicely in the trunk. In this information age, never has so much health and fitness information been made available to consumers everywhere. Yet, we continue to loosen our restricting belts more each day!
The excuse is that most people are “too busy” to learn about health and fitness. They choose to let the experts handle it. Enter the certified personal fitness trainer. You as a trainer need to be the expert they look to. You need to know what you are talking about. And you need to convey it in a way that your clients know you know what you’re talking about! You are the soldiers on the frontlines of this war. And like I talked about last week, education is such a key weapon in this war that is waging.
Don’t fool yourself into thinking this isn’t that big of a deal. We are in a crisis and nobody wants to admit it. Approximately 72.5 million American adults are obese. And that’s just the adults! Child obesity has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents in the past 30 years. Obesity is the genuine plague of the 21st century.
What is the solution? Bettering ourselves to help better others. The teachers in our children’s schools are constantly learning more through continuing education. They do this so they can teach better. Trainers need to be continually learning so they can teach better as well. Let’s use this information age to our advantage and pass along the weapon of education to help everyone fight this enemy. Continue bettering yourself by continuing your education.
