NFPT Live: Five Steps to Setting New Years Goals – Ep 27

NFPT

Setting goals and making resolutions is not as simple as raising a glass on new years and declaring your intentions. It’s a skill that requires practice. Everybody can use a little help when it comes to envisioning their future. Set your own goals first and then help your clients identify their goals. Pick up some tips in this episode of NFPT Live.

In this episode we talked about:

1. Writing down your goal
2. Connecting with your reason/why
3. Sharing your goal (not casually)
4. Creating a timeline for your goal
5. Measuring progress of your goal

Some of our viewers said:

Sharing sometimes cuts both ways. Some people are not going to be supportive. You need to be prepared for negative feedback.

“Goals give you more than a reason to get up in the morning; they are an incentive to keep you going all day”- Harvey MacKay

“Review your goals twice every day in order to be focused on achieving them”- Les Brown

“When obstacles arise, you change your direction to reach your goal; you do not change your decision to get there”-Zig Ziglar

I think you need to break it up. To get to a yearly goal you need to do something every day and reward yourself. It can be a pat on the back. But if you wait till the end to reward yourself you will never stick to it.

I think you need to have fun. If your goal makes your life horrible you will quit.

Setting realistic goals is something I have had to learn over the years, after failing many times.

I want my strong core back. I lost it 😩

I like the comment of time not being so important so long as there is progress being made. If we get focused on timelines, we get discouraged.

My goal is Flexibility-physically and professionally.
